future wha?

so I am sitting here in the middle of yen & yang - the place I always spout off to people in need as the place they need to be. nice when the world holds up a mirror. today, i dunno if i will make it through to fall. this room is noisy - the f*cking neanderthal children that live downstairs think they answer to no one (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_China ). and no I'm not being a f*cking racist - you take 22 year old rich kids who have no brothers or sisters and put them underneath you to live for a year. kum-bay-ya. at this rate I'll be an angry imperialist by the time I am 40.

i did manage a nights sleep last night. so not AS tired as the past week has dictated. fell asleep in class yesterday. got too much going on. fought the school for breech of contract, as mentioned earlier. DID get my grades though - top third of the class. borderline honors/distinction. hooray. now if I can find 10 quiet minutes to do more. and more. and more.

i need to get a newer computer so I can be mobile again. this apple is one of the million defective products unleashed onto the public by apple. they admit the problem, now I am supposed to wait 3-6 weeks while they fix it. i hope apple chokes on itself. we've been choking on their crap expensive computers and baited marketing strategies for years. but then, is bill gates the final solution?

Dear Martin: Do they really call us Ameritrash?

Love that.

-Joe (my friend in Philly - known for years from NYC)

Dear Joe,
you know it;s interesting - the media over here doesn't proliferate every inch of the landscape, therefore I don't hear these things. I know a large cross section (as you'd expect from my big mouth) of people and no one uses those terms. Even the most degenerate persons I've met have at least the equivalent to a high school education in the states. They know geography and even if they don't do it - how to balance a checkbook.

The gyst is, they know Americans are fat, lazy people with some bizarre need for occult-style religion and mythology. That said, what name could fit?

There is more 'accessible' culture - the arts/dance/theatre/music in Edinburgh and Glasgow - population .5 million and 2 million respectively - than in the entire New York City (pop. 9 mil?) and probably the entire south. If that's any clue. And none of it's about putting the face of Jesus on fans and eating chicken.

Love,

Martin

11:59pm you-know-where time

so the tribunal seemes to have really stirred the applecart. I thought we were asking for abatements for just our court. turns out the problem was for the whole 4000-end users of the internet system. this could really be a deal for the school. we sat here without internet as promised for weeks. included in the rent. yeah-right. but in the same token i don;t want to harm the school unecessarily - however, the applecart is already dripping.

the downstairs neighbors are being human tonight. for once. i pray it continues.

where did this month go? everything just keeps getting faster and faster. cliché as it were- but appropriate.

bush threw himself a 40million dollar party. praise the lord. morals!!!

11:13pm Edinburgh time

nailed the tribunal. i coulda been a prosecuting attorney. i reckon some feisty new york experience served me well. it's amazing to what lengths people will go protect their ego's - especially computer co's. There was a complete system failure, which they admit, for internet access. Oh the joys of it all. brings back memories. WWho's on first?

need to be focusing on my schoolwork now. only that. well, if my neighors downstairs get sorted byt the warden - i am having faith at this point. ommm.

i talked to this kid I know through a friend back in Queens. J-- is 14. no dad around. th eother night, apparently, his mom gave him ambien. food is scarce. the aunt & uncle in florida want to take him. the mom's ok with it. the court has to dig up the deadbeat father. which usually means a fun time in family court. he's angry that his dad is gone, etc. He actually confided some stuff - maybe he has a chance with the move. I told him to not get freaked if there's a bump in the road along the process. I like it when I can be useful in subtle ways.

rambling. tired. must stop.

for now.

happy Robert Burns day.

the hatefulness of sin

so the accomodations rented by the University of Edinburgh are DEPLORABLE. Expensive, cold noise pits. Looks nice, sleeps awful. They're more concerned with fire doors than actual service. Once they get you in a contract, you're fucked. I did get a formal hearing about lack of services set for tomorrow - a big deal it seems to these people who'd rather send 30 emails back & forth than have a five minute phone conversation. No, sure, I'm not bitter at all.

I'm actually a little depressed about it. I've met two types of people here: nice ones and spoilt little rich kids from America and China who should be charged for the air they breathe. If the nice little ESL's downstairs cannot stop slamming every door they open, I may resort to nasty New York Neighbor tactics. Or I might just leave. Can't do an Msc. with the floor moving.

I want to love Scotland - really. Trying very hard. The friends I've made are better than I could ever have imagined - tight, good folks. But the problem with Scotland is that Scotland cannae (can't) seem to get out of it's own way.

I am supposed to go to Glasgow on Thursday. They say people are friendlier and better there. Well friendlier.

stomach pains and squirts

Ok so my friends have all told me that these posts are supposed to be shorter. But I reserve the right to put up the long stuff too - some thing swork with a little ebb and flow.

I'm psyched - found Jake Squirts web page tonight. The kid who made Manhattan Neighborhood Network rock for about 5 years. He interviewed rock stars in his bedroom. AH-talent. Lacking these days.

I wish I could find some f*cking shows to watch on this glorious broadband. Scotland is cold and dark right now. BBC is, well BBC. All the hoopla: "get broadband get braodband" so you do, and what really goes faster? Not IM. Not email. File downloads maybe - but I tired of porn years ago. Except the occasional spankarooni. So you get your super fast broadband all rigged up to watch, what boys & girls??? PREVIEWS! Hip Hip Hooray! We get to see PREVIEWS of all your favorite crap shows. LINKS PLEASE!

I thought the internet was supposed to be part of the "free markets" all the republicrats and torees keep yackin about, and offer "more choices to the consumer!" - my ass.

I have a tribunal against Uni's housing department on Tuesday for shoddy broadband delivery. The club opening date here in Edinburgh is 28 Feb. Stay tuned.
